Pipeworks Festival Programme - 20-29 June 2008
The festival opens right in the heart of Dublin in the city’s oldest cathedral, with two events that establish the themes running through the entire programme. At 6.30 pm Ireland’s premiere choral ensemble, the National Chamber Choir, performs Messiaen’s Cinq Rechants under the direction of Catherine Simonpietri, interspersed with organ improvisations by British virtuoso David Briggs.
A reception for Pipeworks Friends in the cathedral crypt follows, during which the nave of the cathedral is transformed into a cinema for the 9 pm free screening of the 1939 silent movie classic The Hunchback of Notre Dame as David Briggs improvises the soundtrack on the cathedral organ.
